Default Gordys Hill Halloween Run 2008 Report

Here are some pictures from our trip down to Gordys hill for the 2nd (annual?) Halloween run.

Weather was nice all weekend with only slight breezes at times. Had rigs from Abq/RioRancho and El Paso come for the weekend.

Friday night everyone started coming in and we had the campfire going till around 2am, we burned through almost an entire truckbed load of wood

Saturday morning a few more rigs came in and we headed to the trails. We started off on Lower Amado and Pucker Falls where Matt (Traverse) bent both passenger side rims and was out first thing so he hopped in with me for the day. Once we got to the fall one rig broke a 35 spline 60 Warn hub and turned around:

From there we found Bad Hair Day and ran that where Nspektor lost the bolts holding the tcase on in his XJ so he had to turn back. From there we got to a ledge where a TJ sheared the pins in his front locker. We continued on to the big fall on Bad Hair Day and Jeff broke a CV on the front driveline.

Once we got off that trail we went back to camp for a quick stop then went to Squeeze Canyon where the carnage continued. Dustin sheared the bolts on his front hubs and got some body damage and Neil (Ellizard) had some fuel pump issues

We got back to the main road and then I split off with Matt to go fix his tires while the others stayed back with Dustin to get him out in 2wd.

Saturday night the campfire was fired back up with a clear, star filled sky and the end to a fun but brutal day of wheeling.

Sunday started off slow as we all packed up and we didnt get to the trail untill around 10. We ran one of the Granite Canyon trails and then Cat Scratch trail (?) back to the byway.

Coming back down the arroyo from Granite Canyon, steep fall for the short wheelbases, my stinger was inches off the ground coming down this fall

From there it was just a few seconds on the main road to reach Coyote Hills

when you get Jake and Paul in the same rig you know it will be on its side at some point in the day

    Jon:

And that finished out a great weekend of wheeling. Thanks Nate for putting it together.

Yes, Nate/Neil have driven it unassisted in the CJ last year. I have seen it done unassisted 4 other times as well. This trip it was pretty rough, alot of the rocks that were at the bottom were not there anymore...and thats a good thing.

It can be seen done unassisted in this video I made of when I rode along with Loren and the 667 rockers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZtqbvCQCNw

i'm not fmiliar with downs jeep.

but cheryl could have gotten through everything we did with the exception of pucker falls with a good spotter. and a lot of time.

you have to remember, that EVERY trail down there has been driven on 33's. they sometimes just dont come out looking as good as when they went in. i wouldnt want to do them on 33's. nor would i recomend it.
