    Default 609 Axle Strong Enough

to handle 42" tires and a 4.6 stroked 4.0 motor? AW-4 trans and 3.8 to 1 Atlas, probably 5.38 in the diffs.

piece of cake if built correctly, ie.. 35 spl axles, nodular case or even better-aftermarket alum with thrust bolt & 'daytona' bearing retainer, forged yoke.
the bad!--locker 'space' is limited -small, spool solves the strength issue, but suck in a front end. ARB or YUKON grizzly work well.

not interested in using the stock 60 center section? shaved its not much bigger than a 9, just heavier! or you could put 10" gears in the 9" housing or.... now you got me going!!

    Sorry...

Good info, didn't think about the limited locker space. I am trying to keep things as light as possible, but want to be strong too.

Do you already have the axles?? Its a lot of tire and torque throwing down to the ground. Will be curious to see what gives first. Build it stout and upgrade after you find out weak links you have. Good luck with the build.
