I made some new 'boots' to protect the TRE from dirt. While they are not as good as the boots that come with the TREs they are stronger and offer better protection then nothing.
I found an old rubber mudflap and used a 2.5" holesaw to cut a disc out of the thicker part of the flap. Next I used a 3/4" holesaw to cut the center circle to fit over the TRE. Put the disc around the TRE and then reinstall. Not the prettiest but it was cheap (free!) and does its job. I considered buying a rod of polyurethane and cutting the discs out of but I couldnt find it cheap enough.
